Privacy Policy

This policy explains what GrabVid collects when you use this site, what we do with it, and what we deliberately avoid collecting. It covers grabvid.org and every page on it. We have written it in plain language, because a privacy policy nobody can read is not really a privacy policy.

The short version

We do not require an account. We do not store the videos you download. We do not sell personal data to anyone. We do run Google AdSense, which places cookies and uses them for advertising, and that is the main way third parties are involved in your visit. Everything below is the detail behind those four sentences.

Information you give us directly

The only form on this site is the contact form. When you use it, you send us your name, email address, chosen subject and message. We use that solely to reply to you and to keep a record of the conversation if it needs follow up. We do not add contact form submissions to a marketing list, because we do not have one.

When you paste a video URL into the downloader, that URL is sent to our server so it can look up the available video formats. It is used for that request and is not linked to a profile of you. We do not build a history of what you have downloaded, and there is no account for such a history to attach to.

Information collected automatically

Like almost every website, our servers write standard access logs. These typically include your IP address, browser type and version, operating system, the page you requested, the page that referred you, and a timestamp. We use these logs for security, for diagnosing errors, and for understanding roughly how much traffic the site handles. Access logs are kept for a limited period and then deleted on a rolling basis.

We may also use privacy respecting analytics to count page views and see which platform pages are most used. Where analytics are in place, they are configured to avoid cross site tracking and to aggregate data rather than follow individuals.

Cookies and similar technologies

A cookie is a small text file stored by your browser. This site uses cookies in two broad categories. Essential cookies keep the site functioning, for example remembering preferences within a session. Advertising cookies are set by Google and its partners to serve and measure ads.

You can block or delete cookies through your browser settings at any time. Blocking advertising cookies does not break the downloader. Blocking all cookies may affect minor conveniences but the core tool will still work.

Google AdSense and third party advertising

This site is free to use and is funded by advertising through Google AdSense. The following disclosures are required and are accurate for how this site is configured.

• Third party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this website or other websites.
• Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to this site and other sites on the internet.
• You may opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google's Ads Settings page. You can also opt out of third party vendor cookies for personalised advertising at aboutads.info.
• If you have not opted out of third party ad serving, the cookies of other vendors or ad networks may also be used to serve ads on this site.

Google may use the DoubleClick DART cookie and similar identifiers. We do not control what data Google collects through its advertising products, and their handling of that data is governed by Google's own privacy policy rather than this one. If you are in a region covered by consent requirements, you will be asked for consent before personalised ads are served.

What we do not do

We do not ask for your password to any social platform, and you should be suspicious of any downloader that does. We do not store copies of downloaded videos on our servers. We do not sell, rent or trade personal information. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13, and if we learn that we have, we delete it.

Data retention

Contact form messages are kept for as long as the conversation may reasonably need follow up, and are then deleted. Server access logs are retained on a short rolling window for security and debugging. Pasted URLs are processed in memory to fulfil the request and are not written to a durable per user record.

Your rights

If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, GDPR gives you the right to access the personal data we hold about you, correct it, have it erased, restrict or object to its processing, and request it in a portable format. If you are a California resident, the CCPA gives you the right to know what personal information is collected, to request its deletion, and to opt out of its sale. We do not sell personal information, so that last right is satisfied by default.

To exercise any of these rights, email contact@grabvid.org and tell us what you need. We will respond within the timeframe required by the applicable law, and we may ask for information that helps us locate the relevant records.

Security

The site is served over HTTPS, so traffic between your browser and our servers is encrypted in transit. We keep our dependencies current and limit the data we hold in the first place, which is the most reliable security measure available to anyone. No system is perfectly secure, and we do not claim otherwise.

External links

Downloads are served from the source platform, and parts of this site link to third party websites. Once you follow such a link, this policy no longer applies and the destination site's own policy governs what happens next. We have no control over how those sites handle your data.

Changes to this policy

When this policy changes we update the date at the top of the page. Material changes will be made obvious rather than slipped in quietly. Continuing to use the site after an update means you accept the revised policy.
